A school website presents specific challenges. It is usually loaded with information about academic programs, tuition, student life, schedules, etc. This is why after 10 years with their initial website, Leahurst College was bursting at the seams and needed a complete refresh.
The mandate was to showcase the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the school. To modernize the website, a responsive design was required along with easy-to-update pages and content blocks by the client themselves. Custom landing pages were also designed to showcase the school's differentiators.
The website was developed with Drupal, with a focus on making it easy for the client to update pages.
The discovery process involved auditing every page of the old website, updating all the content, and creating brand-new content that elevates the school. After designing a custom homepage, a default interior page was created to allow for information-heavy content. Custom blocks were also designed to be applied on any interior default page. Then custom landing pages were designed.
Leahurst College is situated in Kingston, Ontario, and is the only independent school in their city. It was important to have landing pages that effectively communicated both the academics of the school and the warm, welcoming, and relaxed atmosphere fostered by staff and faculty.
Three program-specific pages serve to showcase the particularities of each grade range and their value proposition. A University-specific page showcases all the university programs their students have been accepted to over the years. A House System page explains how each student is carefully placed in one of four Houses during the first week of school and what each House offers.
